Dreams into Reality

Life... There are tons of things that can be done. There are tons of things that we do that we don't feel like doing, but we still do. There are things we think of, but don't have the passion to do. There are things we want to do, but don't do. There is the old saying would of, should of, could of and that kind of thinking has to stop.

I love talking to people, seeing what they want out of life, getting an idea of what they like to do, and so on. I have realized that everybody doesn't want my dream. However, I do want people to realize their own dreams and go for it. So that will be part of my life mission. To give people encouragement, direct them to oppurtinities they didn't think that was possible, and simply enjoy the sweat, tears, joys, misfortunes, and satisfaction of living their dreams

The Importance of Meetings

I didn't like meetings much until recently. The reason why is because there was nothing really important that came afterwards. I would attend, listen, give my input, but nothing really was vivid. There have been so many meetings that I have gone to that didn't need me being their and I could have been informed of what happen in the meeting. I think my biggest gripe of the whole meetings saga is that 9/10 nothing really got implemented and it was just a trick of showing that the company/organization cared about the employees/members.

However, just recently I have grown a better appreciation of meetings. The business ventures that I am involved in now have had a meeting a week and now that it is getting closer to launch day we are having meetings 2-3 times per week. The partners are giving feedback and advice and things are really getting done. It is really a breath of fresh air to see progress and to hold everyone accountable for their task at hand.

Bar-B que pits vs. Taco stands

It is crazy and amazing to see taco stands and bar-b que pits all over the place that I live. I get annoyed at times because there are so many of them. These mobile eateries have a mission to provide homemade food that people are interested in. They would set up shop anywhere there is high traffic or a nearby burger joint. The whole concept is truely entrepreneural and the simple fact that people are working for themselves. However, after a while all of the taco stands and bar-b que pits will become all the same and no one would care which one they purchase food from. Then again these eatery spots can be satisfied with the amount of traffic that they are generating and won't care about expanding their market to make even more money.

So the lesson to take from these people are that if you have a plan or idea, then take charge and make it a reality, don't let a chance pass you by.

My first entrepreneurship endeaver...

I really didn't think about the first time until my best friend and I were talking about our childhood. It was a great one and cherished it. However, the time that we had as really young entrepreneurs was having our own lawn mowing business. It was 8 of us, 2 lawn mowers, and 1 edger. I really didn't care about the money, it was pure fun doing something we taught could work. We made flyers, went door to door, and recieved phone calls. Our first job was cutting this lady's yard with grass that was 3 ft tall and tons of ant beds. Just craziness. One of the lawn mowers broke down and we had to come back the next day to finish up the back yard. We didn't care how long it would take, we wanted to complete the job. We made $67 dollars, I don't know why I remember the amount, but we earned every single bit of it. I believe we did 2-3 more lawn jobs and that was the end of the endeaver. The business ended for various reasons; some were money hungry, some wanted to use the money for a group purchase, some wanted to do more lawn jobs, and so on. Some people even broke from the group to form their own lawn company. But in the end we were still friends. There are quite a bit of things that I have learned from that experience, they are:

1. Think an idea out and see if there is a market for it.
2. When things start to go to hell, stop and rethink the process and fix what the process is.
3. Enjoy the business oppurtunity, not the money. The money will come later.
4. When you know the market attack it if your life depended on it.

what really drives business

Today was an usual monday, nothing spectacular. But still a learning lesson nontheless. After lunch at work we discussed examples of how we can improve our job. It was interesting because there were so many topics thrown out. Most of the people generating the questions were management people. Most of the "workers" were sitting back listening. Didn't really have anything to say. But that is besides the point. It seemed like all of the topic questions were related to each other, but one thing that was said during the meeting that was mention that stuck with me. Which was marketing and that was truely it, marketing was what all of the things related to. It was kind of funny and also crazy because all of the books I have been reading lately talked about the subject matter at hand. And the great bit of what was said was about doing things for free, going to extra mile for the client in order to get the job done. I can see that the younger people didn't really care about that. In other words, there was nothing they were going to get back from the situation except going out into the community and being the companies spokesman. I feel wholeheartly of what the company is trying to do and trying to give more back to the client, because in affect that will lead to more projects and then more profit and so on.

But there is something that is equally important. What is the company going to give back to the employees? Just can't say the employee should be gracious for an opportunity like this. See it really comes down to what the employee is getting back in return and how the employee is treated. If you shower the employee with encouragement, incentives, and tools to complete their jobs. They will have no problem going to extra distance. Well that is one's man thoughts, but I am sticking to it.
